Nowadays, there is a lot of different stuff that you can do with AI when writing content. Some of that stuff is unethical and not allowed, but there are no qualms for the most of it.
If you utilize AI properly when writing content, it can help you save time and effort while giving a boost to your content’s quality and effectiveness.
Let’s take a look at how you can do that.
Understanding the status of AI tools in writing
Before we get started, however, it’s important to clarify the stance and status of AI tools in writing.
As we mentioned earlier, these tools are fine to use for the most part, but there are some situations and circumstances where it’s the opposite.
For example,
- If you are writing for a client or an employer, you cannot use AI tools for your writing if there are instructions or guidelines provided prohibiting their use. Many people can justifiably instruct their writers to write content completely on their own.
- AI tools are also not okay to use if someone utilizes them to misappropriate existing content or resources for their own benefit. Using them, for example, to alter existing content and use it as one’s own is completely unethical.
Other than these situations, there can be some more specific cases where AI tools should not be used.
But, apart from those, using these tools is fine, and they can be a helpful addition to the writing process.
Now, let’s move on to the actual topic of this post and find out how you can use these tools to begin with.
Things That You Can Use AI for In Content Writing
a. You can use AI for content generation
Arguably, if someone uses AI for content generation, then they aren’t actually writing anything.
But we don’t mean it like that.
Content generation doesn’t have to be done in toto. In other words, there are other ways to use content generators than to wholly and completely create your content with them.
One way to use these tools is to generate 40% of the content while writing the rest yourself. In cases like these, the content generated by the tool can act as a prompt to build upon.
In our own personal experience, we have found that writing on a new or unexplored topic can often be tough and confusing. In situations like that, it can be handy to use a content generator and create a comprehensive piece of text on said topic. You can then add your own content in between the generated text to increase it in length and elaboration.
b. You can use AI for automated paraphrasing
Another less direct and drastic use of AI during the content creation phase is to use it for paraphrasing. AI-assisted paraphrasing can be a good way to improve the quality of the existing content.
When AI tools paraphrase a piece of given content, they replace the existing words with synonyms, merge and break the sentences, alter the sentence structures, and so on. If the tool in question is high-quality, the changes made are mostly in a better direction, i.e., they make the content better.
Case in point…have a look at the paraphrasing tool in action below:
Putting a few of them together, here are some purposes for which you can use AI paraphrasing tools:
- Improving content quality (as illustrated above)
- Eliminating accidental plagiarism
- Reusing content
Accidental plagiarism basically occurs when someone writes content that coincidentally matches material already present on the Internet. Since this is due to no fault of the writer themselves, it’s okay to use online tools to fix it. It is worth noting, however, that this is not fine to do in cases of normal plagiarism. You cannot, so to say, take content from somewhere, paraphrase it, and then use it as your own.
On the other hand, when we talk about reusing content, we mean situations when you need to make use of the same text in a different part of the write-up but with different words. It's not the most common of occurrences, but it does happen when you’re writing something long and lengthy.
c. You can use AI to make your content grammatically perfect
Grammar and spell-checking are some of the most important steps that you have to take during the content-writing process. Grammar and spelling errors can make your writing look amateurish and low-quality – which is why it is paramount to find and remove them.
Nowadays, there are AI-based grammar checkers that you can find on the Internet for this purpose. Grammar checkers have existed for quite a long period of time as they are, but recently, they have been equipped and enhanced with AI.
Thanks to the AI elements in their working, grammar checkers can work a lot more precisely and accurately. They can understand the context of the given text and then point out the errors that are actually errors. Simple online grammar checkers can often misfire when they point out some as an error…which is an error when the surrounding context and tone are not considered.
Final thoughts
And that brings our post to a close.
These are some of the common things that you can do with AI tools when writing content. Even if you want to do other stuff, keep in mind to stick within the parameters that we’ve outlined above. Using AI tools is only fine when done ethically and with the consent of the client/employer.
